Wonderous Waratahs

September 30, 2014 by sadhaka9

Though poor and in trouble I wander alone, With rebel cockade in my hat, Though friends may desert me, and kindred disown, My country will never do that! You may sing of the Shamrock, the thistle, the rose, Or the three in a bunch if you will; But I know of a country that gathered all those, And I love the great land where the Waratah grows. And the Wattle bough blooms on the hill. Australia! Australia! so fair to […]

Kuringai Chase NP

September 28, 2014 by sadhaka9

When I started off the sky was moody. Dark clouds threatened overhead but that didn’t bother me. I always love a bit of rain. It makes everything seem so much cleaner. They cleared about lunchtime without even a drop but left a few scattered clouds around protecting me from the hot, blinding sun. This was one of those days when I go it alone. It’s amazing how much you can take in when there is only the wind in the […]

Little Wild Blooms

September 24, 2014 by sadhaka9

I feel lucky at the moment. For only a short period of time will this exist. The tiny little wild flowers are everywhere. A dare not blink for soon it will be gone.

Ironmonger

September 19, 2014 by sadhaka9

It was rather a cold and overcast day venturing up to see if there were any orchids blooming on Tinpot and Ironpot Mountains in the Wild Dogs – part of the Blue Mountains National Park. We only found one and it was a little sad as it had likely bloomed weeks ago. It didn’t dampen the trip at all as this is a very scenic area. The terrain is rocky and moss-like plants grow over the rough boulders. The subdued colours […]

Wildflower Season

September 17, 2014 by sadhaka9

It’s the beginning of spring and the wildflowers are blooming in the Australian bush. The most spectacular is the waratah – a large red bloom with curved, tubular petals. It reaches high towards the sky on top of it’s stalk, with its serrated leaves growing out from the sides of its long, straight stalk. It is a great time to hike. It isn’t too hot yet and the colour of the flowers bring life to the dryness of the Australian […]
