Royal National Park : Curra Moors Loop

March 2, 2016 by sadhaka9

A fairly easy walk of 10km from the bush to the sea and back. The word ‘Curra’ is aboriginal for water spring and if going clockwise around the loop this is what you will find about one third a way around the track. Trickling over the rocks, making it’s way to the open sea, the water flows forwards as if in an endless race for freedom. The wind whips up the overflow into a whirlwind of mist. Cheeky lizards get […]

Cathedral of Ferns

November 8, 2015 by sadhaka9

Time is moss-green, damp. It lies on branches, serpentine. It sways to some breath we can’t feel, a noiseless call; and sheds its skin to show a newer green. Anachronisms, we walk here as thin as ghosts, our inconstant color shadowless. No sound laps this island of years, but the drip of rain from a tree-top so far above us we can count to ten as each drop falls. Silent, we watch green wrap away the hour, our day, summer […]

Kamay Botany Bay NP 2

October 11, 2014 by sadhaka9

Across Botany Bay the National Park continues. Walking along the cliff line it is amazing to see that this high up it is still like a beach. Pure white sand becomes amber yellow and back again. The sandstone rocks are molded into strangely beautiful circular shapes by the wind that constantly blows around them eroding each grain over time. Following the track into the vegetation birds flit everywhere. I seem to be surrounded by them in the dense bushes. The […]

Kamay Botany Bay NP 1

October 7, 2014 by sadhaka9

It’s amazing what you can find in your own backyard. I had avoided this place only because I had considered it suburbia. I was so wrong. I was left alone with the waves crashing on the rocks below and the wind shaking the coastal flowers so they danced with the neighbouring grasses. As I ventured around Cape Banks the calm, clear aqua of Henry Head slowly turned into a roaring deep blue that forced itself onto the painted sandstone.  A […]

Heathcote NP

October 6, 2014 by sadhaka9

There are so many national parks around Sydney it’s amazing. The great thing is they are all so different. In one park alone the vegetation can change dramatically. Heathcote NP is no exception. Peppering the landscape the indigenous gymea lily seems like such a jurassic flower. It is so high there is no way to see the top of it. You can tell it comes from a place long before humans. The birds love it. Native aboriginals used to eat […]

Wonderous Waratahs

September 30, 2014 by sadhaka9

Though poor and in trouble I wander alone, With rebel cockade in my hat, Though friends may desert me, and kindred disown, My country will never do that! You may sing of the Shamrock, the thistle, the rose, Or the three in a bunch if you will; But I know of a country that gathered all those, And I love the great land where the Waratah grows. And the Wattle bough blooms on the hill. Australia! Australia! so fair to […]

Kuringai Chase NP

September 28, 2014 by sadhaka9

When I started off the sky was moody. Dark clouds threatened overhead but that didn’t bother me. I always love a bit of rain. It makes everything seem so much cleaner. They cleared about lunchtime without even a drop but left a few scattered clouds around protecting me from the hot, blinding sun. This was one of those days when I go it alone. It’s amazing how much you can take in when there is only the wind in the […]

Little Wild Blooms

September 24, 2014 by sadhaka9

I feel lucky at the moment. For only a short period of time will this exist. The tiny little wild flowers are everywhere. It is like Monet has danced through the bushland dotting natures canvas with splashes of colour. His arm waving frantically as his brush taps the ends of every shrub and bush. A festival of life. A dare not blink for soon it will be gone.

Ironmonger

September 19, 2014 by sadhaka9

It was rather a cold and overcast day venturing up to see if there were any orchids blooming on Tinpot and Ironpot Mountains in the Wild Dogs – part of the Blue Mountains National Park. We only found one and it was a little sad as it had likely bloomed weeks ago. It didn’t dampen the trip at all as this is a very scenic area. The terrain is rocky and moss-like plants grow over the rough boulders. The subdued colours […]
