A Foray of Fungi

April 14, 2016 by sadhaka9

…We diet on water, On crumbs of shadow, Bland-mannered, asking Little or nothing. So many of us! So many of us! We are shelves, we are Tables, we are meek, We are edible, Nudgers and shovers In spite of ourselves. Our kind multiplies: We shall by morning Inherit the earth. Our foot’s in the door. – Sylvia Plath, Mushrooms

A Burst of Berries

April 10, 2016 by sadhaka9

A symphony of  joyful tints reside in the Autumn forests of Tasmania. Bursts of colour in the form of small and delicate surprises. Purple, red, blue, pink, orange and white happily mix together in harmony. Brightening the world under the greying sky. If only here for a moment they come to life with joy. Dotting the landscape in a celebration of the seasons just passed and welcoming the white winter wonderland they will soon sleep under.

Marriott’s Falls Tasmania

April 9, 2016 by sadhaka9

A jungle strangely hidden on the edge of Mount Field National Park. Sinewy trees and open grassy areas where wombats graze merge into a dense forest of giant ferns and moist earth. A canopy high and heavy encloses a meandering track, the roof so low it feels claustrophobic at times. And then listening, the trickling water turns into a splash then a smashing on rocks as the track ends with fallen trees so thick with age and slippery with constant […]

Mount Field National Park : Tall Trees Walk

April 7, 2016 by sadhaka9

One of the great short walks in Tasmania (only about 1km), the Tall Trees Walk is awe inspiring. Shadows cast from branches so high create pockets of dark and light. The sky seems ever so close with arms reaching out as if they have touched the edge of the stratosphere. The tallest tree standing is over 74 metres. The tallest known to have lived around 90. I feel so small but so close to an ancient life that has so […]

Mount Field National Park : Lake Dobson

March 29, 2016 by sadhaka9

Natures garden. Growing perfectly in a moody landscape. Waiting for winter’s snow. A mystical garden that fascinates at every turn and undulation. A sub-alpine landscape like no other place on earth, with plants only found at this height and only in Tasmania. The Pandani, nature’s muppets, shaggy and hairy silently singing ‘mana mana’. Only a short walk, the spray of colour with autumnal berries, fungi and mossy undergrowth is captivating.

Blue Mountain National Park : Leura Cascades

March 4, 2016 by sadhaka9

There is sweet music here that softer falls Than petals from blown roses on the grass, Or night-dews on still waters between walls Of shadowy granite, in a gleaming pass ; Music that gentlier on the spirit lies, Than tired eyelids upon tired eyes ; Music that brings sweet sleep down from the blissful skies. Here are cool mosses deep, And through the moss the ivies creep, And in the stream the long-leaved flowers weep, And from the craggy ledge […]

The Cockatoo

March 3, 2016 by sadhaka9

When you’re walking a track in the middle of the bush and a cockatoo lands next to you and says “Hello” (I kid you not) it’s something special. “Oh hi” I said as he walked a little closer. “Hello”! I gave him a nut and we talked as if old friends. Soon I realised he was a decoy sent in to befriend me. One by one they came. Dropping like snowflakes in front of me. Hungry for a taste of […]

Royal National Park : Curra Moors Loop

March 2, 2016 by sadhaka9

A fairly easy walk of 10km from the bush to the sea and back. The word ‘Curra’ is aboriginal for water spring and if going clockwise around the loop this is what you will find about one third a way around the track. Trickling over the rocks, making it’s way to the open sea, the water flows forwards as if in an endless race for freedom. The wind whips up the overflow into a whirlwind of mist. Cheeky lizards get […]
